it says it fails to even download the right runtime. can you find an offline setup?
Also one shot into the dark: What is, if we remove direct X all together and force it to use Vulkan?
This mod here: viewtopic.php?t=62 has the option to "render fix" the game by replaxing the directx 9 API with the vulkan api. Maybe this is worth a shot (use on main system and make sure your dirvers are up tp date)?

could you please post the exact error messages you get now and maybe provide a savegame shortly before the error happens?

Message: CUtlFont::GetCharacterWidth: illegal char (Char: 8217)

two save-files here, one when the error does in battle and one when selling mage-scrolls.

hi,

ok after testing different versions, i sadly have to say, it works on my retail version of 1.52a and 1.54 (disc).
But the GoG and steam version do throw this error! It seems these versions are not quite that what you may think.

I try to find the deeper root of this issue, but at least we have a small lead now.
