Hey there, yeah I have several save files before entering the map from the swimming city. Is there still anything possible?
Btw I could also deal with a bigger throwback as long it doesn't mean I have to replay the whole game again.
I can see if i can fix it for you, please provide me some savegames before entering the map (no autosaves).
But i again highly recommend you not to continue on the anniversary edition, or more bugs like these will appear.
I would be eternally thankful if you somehow could manage to fix it. Maybe I can give you a shoutout when I write my review to the game.
Yeah I would like to refrain from the Anniversary Edition as long its means I somehow can continue my save in another version. Dunno why Nordic has done such a sloppy job.
So I have these two save files that are pretty close to each other in the Swimming City shortly before I enter the portal. On the 3. I'm right in front of the portal with the coordinates set. In 2 I still have to set the coordinates (before the quest gets updated)
The third one with the 15 is in ghostwatch, which is before I enter the swimming city, if somehow you need an even earlier save. I also have a save where I saved at winter light peak when everything went black but I suppose you don't need it.

Greeting, tell me if you still need more or anything else.
sadly i come with bad news. I tried to force the script that resaves the maps informations properly in your savegame, but they refuse to get overwritten. This bug seems to got saved right at the start of the campaign at character creation. I am sorry but whatever starts with this faulty game version, its hopelessly bugged. Seems all what you can do is to skip this quest, or move blindly trough it.

Oh too bad but thanks for trying.
- Do you know if these saves can be made somehow compatible with an old version?
- Is it possible to take an save file of a different character where the issue is solved before creating the character?
Basically all I need is an save file be it anniverary edition or a different one that is similiar progress wise but where the bug has been solved.
You shared a save file of an level 29 character back then in 2023
I tried that save file out and it worked. It was saved in Winterlight Peak and I could see the map. Though progress wise this was nowhere where I was.
So if by chance I can somehow get the grip of an save file that is progress wise nearby. It actually should work shouldn't it? I don't mind giving up my character as long I get it to work and the character isn't overpowered by cheat items?
Do you know a good source of save files?

well the issue is saved in the savegame, so even porting the savegame of the new version over to the old one, it would be carring the bug over.
If we make a savegame in the old valid version and carry that over to the new bugged version, that bug will get patched in.
So sadly the only option would be to use an old version savegame on the 1st step of entering this map and its quest with your progression.
Or replay the old classic version until the point you were.
Lets see if i can find something in my old archives. I found an old savegame that is definitly created by the old version (see attachments) right at the start of the game. You can see if this works for you when you rush trough it.

But then why does this save file work?
Shaikan Xian~Winterlichtspitze.sav
It works to 100%. I can visit Winter Light peak and leave as many times I want, although playing the anniversary edition, there is no black texture appearing.
The only problem, the scenario is already beaten (it seems) and the progress is too far. Couldn't an older "Shaikan Xian" save file, saved when visiting winterlight peak for the second time (being between level 21 - 25) potentially work as well? I don't understand why not, when the attached save file works as well.

because like i told you already, that savegame was created and played until this point on version 2.00. It has the map informations properly saved in it. Thats why when its loaded up, its correctly loaded. Any newer version bugs it up and saves that bugged information, resulting in that light-information missing map.
I was hoping to find an older version of that playtrough, but sadly i could not find it anymore. I have masses for the Free Game mode, but i could not find anything before the final mission. Sry :-(

Oh that's a shame but that means as long I could a get ahold of a save file made in 2.0 I could avoid the bug? Well seems very difficult going through the hassle if there would be at least a site where you can get savefiles. I think this would be a nobrainer.
I mean I have lots of them I could upload, but most of the time you only get 100% safe files (where I really don't see the point why they are even uploaded with nothing to do anymore)
My problem is, going through the campaign again isn't that much engaging even with cheats activated the sheer sizes of the map moving the heroes again throgh it is annoying. Just when thinking about uncovering the map of Sevenhold again it just takes so long. It's really a bummer.
Do you know if any other quests are interconnected with Winter Light? What things do I miss in this game by skipping the quest?
I swear if I could pay someone to play for me to the point I would definitely do this. Isn't there nothing, some kind of of tool or trainer where you can kinda set variables and character attributes to exactly pinpoint to an exact place? Is the modding of this game really that restricted?
Sorry for all the questions. It's kinda frustrating, especially seeing the game being sold in that state.

NeoX provided you with a savegame that was created right at the start of the campaign, so if its only a proper savegame you need, there you go.
Otherwise maybe you should request one of the legacy game versions, since the steam one looks hopeless. Maybe NeoX can help you with that too if you ask.

The problem is in the gold build the resolution I can play with is too low I can almost see nothing of the map and when I try to increase it to 1280x880 /which is the highest available, the game just downright stops working so I don't know a good way to play on an older release.
Spellforce 2 main campaign on the anniversary edition worked sloppy and sometimes crashed but at least it didn't deny me a huge chunk of the game.
As for the save file
Actually i'm a bit scared if i'm going through the hassle to play it again from the beginning only to see that it still doesn't work at the end. To know I have to play quite a lot at least 15-20 hours which is too much for just trying it out.

You are aware that thats what the hardware patch is for, right? Applying your desktop resolution to the game (do not enter the settings after applying it or the game hardcode resets it).
I understand your fear about the effort, but with the legacy version it can not repeat. I think.

So what is the legacy version actually? Is it only obtainable playing the game from disc? I read the gold version has this issue as well. So I applied the hardware patch which works pretty well, but does that mean I can start a new save file with a charater with my own or do I have to trust that the Xian save file works? I wanna make REALLY sure that the effort pays off.
